In collaboration with United Beyond Borders (UBB) and the Puntland Sustainable Agrilivestock Network (PUSAN), we successfully trained over 30 Somali youth in preparation for global climate negotiations at COP29, held in Azerbaijan. This specialized training focused on climate advocacy, policy engagement, and negotiation skills, equipping young leaders with the knowledge and tools necessary to represent Somalia on the global stage.

This initiative, spearheaded by United Beyond Borders, aims to enhance climate awareness and action among youth from conflict-affected areas across seven countries in the MENA region. As the YALI Somalia Alumni Chapter, we proudly hosted the workshops in Somalia, furthering our commitment to empowering youth and fostering their active participation in climate action.

Key Outcomes of the Workshops:

  • Enhanced Youth Capacity: Participants gained critical insights into global climate policies, negotiation tactics, and effective advocacy strategies.
  • Increased Awareness: The workshops contributed to a deeper understanding of Somalia’s climate challenges and the role youth can play in addressing them.
  • Policy Contributions: Trainees actively engaged in drafting recommendations for Somalia’s climate agenda to be presented at COP29.
  • Youth Networking: The sessions provided a platform for young climate advocates to connect and collaborate on future initiatives, strengthening their collective impact.
  • Increased Visibility: Somalia’s participation in Pre-COP29 initiatives helped elevate the voices of Somali youth in international climate discussions.

We are proud to have contributed to this impactful initiative and remain committed to equipping Somali youth with the skills and opportunities needed to advocate for sustainable climate solutions and build resilient communities.

Together, we are building a greener and more sustainable future for Somalia!
